Life Insurance Corpor-ation of India (LIC) has decided to start a system within two years that will allow policyholders to claim benefits and pay premium at any of its branches. LIC has more than 2,100 branches.
“Premium payment can be done anywhere in India. Now, we would like to make claim payments in any office,” LIC chairman T S Vijayan said. “Once all documents are available on the internet, any office can do it. It depends on the completion of EDMS (enterprise document management system) project, which we plan to complete by 2011,” he said. EDMS project will enable LIC to extend the Anywhere –Anytime service, he added. The project was launched in 2007 with Hewlett Packard India as its major partner. The total project cost for 8 years is around Rs 600 crore, he said.
